Our faithful companions.   Isn’t it amazing that these guys are such selfless friends? How often do these guys do things for us just because they like us. Sometimes we are mean to them and they still like us. Sometimes we don't even think about them but they still like us.   This little fella is training to be a seeing eye dog to help humans who have challenges with sight. They go through some much training. -and they seem so glad to help.   Do something nice for a dog today - even if it's not yours.  They deserve so much from us.  Not my first painting but certainly the first watercolour where I felt I have made significant progress.   So there I was with this photograph of my best friend's dog.  I had paper from a sketch book and I knew a bit about stretching watercolour paper.  So I tried it with the sketchbook paper and it worked!! Then I drew the image and proceeded to paint it.  I had some idea how the watercolours would work having seen an exhibition of the art of Ken Danby at the DeVooght Galleries in Vancouver.  I had also done some watercolours before but in this one everything came together so perfectly. It would be a while before I came up with anything near this painting.

On the prairies in the old days, long before cars or trains, a hunting party would be sent to find buffalo.   One buffalo could keep a large group fed for a long time.   The best scout would dismount his horse and place his ear near the ground.   Quietly he would listen.   If there was silence it would be a long day.   If there was the sound of distant thunder it could be a good day. When you are at a race track and you hear the thunder of the horses as they run past you it’s a good day.  This is one of the beasties that make the thunder.  Nothing like it.  Just starting a new blog.  This is all about visual art.  That means drawing and painting.  Focusing on my artwork.
