On the prairies in the old days, long before cars or trains, a hunting party would be sent to find buffalo. One buffalo could keep a large group fed for a long time. The best scout would dismount his horse and place his ear near the ground. Quietly he would listen. If there was silence it would be a long day. If there was the sound of distant thunder it could be a good day. When you are at a race track and you hear the thunder of the horses as they run past you it’s a good day. This is one of the beasties that make the thunder. Nothing like it.
